Thor: The Dark World is a fucking great movie and I do not see enogh appreciation.

Reblog if you love this movie. I can not be the only one.

I love it but I assume I’m blinded a little by Loki’s awesomeness.  Loki has some great stuff here, and I really enjoy seeing the Warriors Three and Sif, and of course Frigga and the whole family drama.  It’s a hugely important movie in the story of Loki and Thor, but I guess if you’re not into all of that then it might be a it dull?  But then why would you not be in to all of that.  😉

In summary, three cheers for Thor: The Dark World!

I love The Dark World.  The problem with the film is that, as usual, Marvel couldn’t commit to a direction and stick with it.  Thor and his supporting cast are inherently dramatic characters.  Inherently serious characters.  But Marvel has a mortal fear of heavy drama, and they feel the need to shoehorn forced comedy into their films, often right on the heels of powerfully dramatic moments, and almost always at the expense of those moments.  And it was they’re doing this that really screwed up the overall tone and narrative of The Dark World.  They should have just committed to the serious nature of the story and the events within the story, and not tried to lighten the mood with ridiculous humor.  The worst instance of this in the film is how immediately after Loki DIES IN THOR’S ARMS, an incredibly heavy and dramatic moment in the film, we get several, solid minutes of absurd, unfunny, inappropriate humor, like Eric Selvig making a crack about Loki being dead when Thor tells him he is “Oh thank god”, and Thor, instead of taking his fucking head off like he SHOULD, just standing there with a dumbfounded look on his face.  Or the cell phone going off and Thor stupidly going “It’s not me.”, and even worse, him and Jane getting back to Earth, and Thor showing immature jealousy over Jane talking to another guy.  His little brother, who he’s had as his closest friend and companion for over a thousand years, just DIED IN HIS ARMS, and he’s worried about some guy Jane’s been seeing.  I mean… fuck you Marvel.

And then in Ragnarok, because Marvel’s dumb as hell, instead of realizing that the ONLY problem with The Dark World was the stupid fucking humor, they instead seem to have come to the conclusion that the problem was the drama, and decided to do away almost entirely with that, and go all in on the humor.  What possessed them to think this, I’ll never, ever know.  It was the drama that made the Thor films as good as they were.  It was always the humor that fell flat.  And look at the Captain America films, for example.  Those rely heavily on drama, with little to no humor injected, and those films tend to be the most well received critically.  It’s like the executives at Marvel are brain dead or something, or just delusional, unable to tell reality from fantasy.
